12 March 2019 - Third Conference on Sustainability and Cultural Institutions, Madrid

The Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS) and Instituto Cervantes will host the third edition of the annual conference on sustainability and cultural institutions - "Towards a Sustainable Culture: alliances and actions from the cultural sector to advance the 2030 Agenda". The conference will take place on March 12 and 13, 2019 at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in Madrid.

The Field director, Sholeh, will join a fantastic line-up of speakers to present a keynote on "How can culture transform the world?" sharing insights on how pioneering organisations like Julie's Bicycle and individual institutions around the world are making a tangible difference to systemic change, in the context of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The talk will look at the interconnected nature of these global frameworks, and unpack the practical ways that individual cultural professionals and the sector as a whole can enable a paradigm shift - how we can "act our way into a new way of thinking".

The conference will include a working session where proposals and solutions for each of the sectors of culture will be discussed, and finalized with a Declaration of Culture in support of the 2030 Agenda. If you are an agent or cultural institution in Spain, and you want to express your commitment to a more sustainable world, you can sign the declaration here.
